Nel 2004 ha deciso di impegnarsi anche in politica, candidandosi a sindaco in area centrodestra e perdendo per soli 23 voti ricandidato nel 2006, era stato eletto sindaco dopo la vittoria al ballottaggio con Bruno Graziotti ed è rimasto nel suo ruolo di primo cittadino fino alla scadenza naturale del mandato.
