L’illustre studioso ha infatti pubblicato monografie su grandi artisti del passato, e fra queste una dedicata a Piero. Ricordiamo anche il suo illuminato impegno al servizio della Fondazione Piero della Francesca. I grandi meriti resi al servizio della nostra città gli valsero nel 1998 il conferimento della cittadinanza onoraria e mai riconoscimento fu più meritato, per aver fattivamente contribuito a far apprezzare la nostra terra e il nostro patrimonio artistico in Italia e nel Mondo intero”. “La storia della Fondazione Piero della Francesca” commenta la presidente dell’istituzione, Francesca Chieli “è legata alla prestigiosa figura del professor Paolucci, che ne ha segnato l’esordio e il prosieguo mantenendo egli stesso, fino all’ultimo, la nomina di coordinatore del Comitato Scientifico. Presidente dal maggio 2001 al novembre 2003 della Fondazione, ha presentato e pubblicato gli atti del convegno ‘Matteo di Giovanni e la pala d’altare nel senese nell’aretino’ e si è occupato della ripresa dei lavori per l’edizione nazionale dei trattati di Piero dopo la morte di Cecil Grayson. Di lui resterà molto ai posteri e in primo luogo una Storia dell’Arte, anche di Piero della Francesca, raccontata con il piacevole eloquio che contraddistingueva i suoi contributi”.
