Si svolta questa mattina nella sala del Consiglio Comunale la cerimonia di assegnazione del Premio Civitas Aretii, prestigiosa onorificenza istituita nel 2004 alla memoria di monsignor Angelo Tafi e conferita dal Comune di Arezzo a personalità benemerite che con il loro operato contribuiscono a diffondere la conoscenza di Arezzo oltre i confini territoriali. Il Premio Civitas Aretii 2025 è stato assegnato a Sergio Squarcialupi, nome che ha contribuito in maniera determinante allo sviluppo e alla affermazione del settore orafo aretino, con la seguente motivazione
“Figura di spicco dell’imprenditoria aretina, lega il suo nome alla storia del settore orafo. Nel 1974 ha fondato la Chimet Spa, azienda leader nel recupero dei metalli preziosi, diventata un punto di riferimento internazionale nel suo settore. Sotto la sua guida lungimirante, la Chimet si è evoluta, diversificando la sua attività e ampliando la gamma di servizi e prodotti offerti. L’azienda è oggi un esempio di eccellenza non solo per i risultati economici raggiunti, ma anche per l’impegno costante verso l’innovazione tecnologica e la sostenibilità ambientale. Il suo legame con il territorio aretino è testimoniato dalla scelta di mantenere la sede principale dell’azienda a Badia al Pino e di aprire un secondo stabilimento a Viciomaggio. Nel 2012, ha rilevato il 100% di UnoAerre, azienda leader nel settore orafo, che sotto la sua guida visionaria ha riacquistato vitalità e competitività riscuotendo un successo che pochi avrebbero potuto prevedere.
