TURRITA DI SIENA – Jonathan Guerri detto “Rafia” sul somaro Peppo porta alla vittoria la Contrada Cavone. La contrada Porta a Sole si aggiudica il premio come migliori sbandieratori, mentre il premio migliori tamburini è andato alla contrada Porta a Pago. Alla Contrada Porta Gavina il Premio Sfoggiato per il miglior corteo storico.
È la Contrada Cavone la vincitrice della 68esima edizione del Palio dei Somari di Torrita di Siena. Il fantino Jonathan Guerri detto Rafia, insieme al somaro Peppo, si aggiudica così il Palio dipinto da Giuliano Censini, riportando dopo nove anni la vittoria nella contrada bianco-verde. Nel campo di gara allestito presso il Gioco del Pallone, nella fase di qualificazione della corsa si sono sfidate dapprima Porta a Pago e Refenero, poi Cavone e Le Fonti, quindi Porta a Sole contro Porta Gavina, infine Porta Nova e Stazione. Le quattro contrade risultate vincitrici da queste batterie sono state: Porta a Pago, con il fantino Alessandro Stampigioni soprannominato “Scheggia”, Cavone, con Jonathan Guerri detto “Rafia”, Porta Gavina, con Matteo Noli detto “Galletto” e Porta Nova, con il fantino Giorgio Fusteri detto “Torrigiano”. La batteria di recupero è stata quindi disputata tra: Refenero, con Alessio Deriu detto il “Pampero”, Le Fonti, con il fantino Thomas Ferretti detto “Brigante”, Porta a Sole, con Mirko Ciancagli detto “Baturlo” e la Stazione, con il fantino Francesco Landi soprannominato “Golino”. A vincere la batteria il somaro Stellina, che taglia il traguardo da solo dopo avere disarcionato il fantino Thomas Ferretti, il quale, purtroppo infortunato, ha dovuto rinunciare a disputare la finalissima. A sostituirlo un nome conosciuto del Palio dei Somari: Andrea Peruzzi detto “Drago”. La finale è stata combattuta fino all’ultimo centimetro del campo di gara, alla conclusione del terzo giro la vincitrice era ancora incerta, ma è stata la contrada di Cavone, dopo tanti anni di attesa ripagata dai tenaci sforzi dei contradaioli e del fantino, a compiere per prima i quattro giri del campo di gara. Subito è esplosa la gioia dei contradaioli di Cavone, che hanno fatto sventolare il “drago” sui tetti di Torrita di Siena. Per la contrada del Presidente Gabriele Rossi si tratta della sesta vittoria in quasi 60 anni. Nel resto del pomeriggio sono stati assegnati il premio Sfoggiato alla contrada Porta Gavina, e i premi per i migliori Sbandieratori, alla coppia di Porta a Sole composta da Stefano Falegnami e Michelangelo Mosca, e per i migliori Tamburini, alla coppia di Porta a Pago con la coppia composta da Niccolò Picchiarelli e Giovanni Ciumi, entrambi già vincitori nell’anno 2024. Insieme agli usuali premi è stata consegnata una targa di riconoscimento a Fosco Meocci, detto “Chiodo”, degno alfiere della scacchiera del Palio, che ormai da anni conosce ogni singolo tassello del Gioco del Pallone.
