La famiglia del maestro Radius chiede, in questo difficile momento, che sia rispettata la privacy che lo ha sempre contraddistinto”
Radius era nato a Roma nel 1942, dove aveva iniziato la sua carriera musicale che lo avrebbe portato, tra le tante cose, a essere uno dei fondatori dei Formula3. Il suo esordio risale alla metà degli anni ’50, con i White Booster, e poi con Quelli, la band che diventerà la Premiata Forneria Marconi che tutti conosciamo per le tournèe con Fabrizio De Andrè. Qualche anno dopo, con Tony Cicco e Gabriele Lorenzi fonda i Formula 3, un gruppo musicale che viene prodotto dalla Numero Uno, la casa discografica di proprietà di Lucio Battisti. Per Battisti, i Formula 3 incidono un brano, Questo folle sentimento, che diventa tra i singoli più venduti in Italia di sempre. Il primo album del gruppo, Dies irae, è del 1970.
La carriera di Radius, però, vive anche in maniera indipendente dal suo gruppo. Nel 1967, infatti, incide il suo primo album da solista, Radius. Nel 1974, dopo lo scioglimento dei Formula 3, Radius – insieme a Mario Lavezzi e altri, fonda una nuova band: il Volo. La sua carriera prosegue nel 1976, quando arriva Che cosa sei e poi Carta straccia: due album di importante successo. Nel frattempo, tante collaborazioni: con Battisti, come detto, ma anche con Marcella Bella, Pierangelo Bertoli, Cristiano Malgioglio, Franco Battiato, Milva, e Giuni Russo, di cui a volte è stato anche produttore. Nel 1978, infine, apre lo Studio Radius, con cui inciderà i suoi album successivi. L’ultima apparizione pubblica è legata al Festival di Sanremo 2021, quando arriva sul palco con i Coma_Cose nella serata delle cover e canta Il mio canto libero di Battisti.
