Il punto in cui si è definitivamente imposta la menzogna. La menzogna dell’accumulo di armi atomiche sempre più potenti come deterrente contro la guerra. In questi ottanta anni le guerre, i massacri di civili innocenti e le distruzioni non si sono fermate, anche grazie alla crescente potenza delle armi convenzionali. La deterrenza ha nutrito sé stessa, e gli arsenali nucleari hanno solo garantito la supremazia e il controllo di alcuni paesi sugli altri, delle nazioni ricche sulle nazioni povere. Ricordare gli ottanta anni da Hiroshima e Nagasaki è ricordare ottanta anni di speranze disattese, in cui troppi governi e vertici militari sono andati nella direzione opposta a quella che quelle devastazioni avrebbero dovuto indicare. Ma è ricordare anche ottanta anni di iniziative di pace, in cui l’intelligenza e il cuore degli uomini hanno promosso iniziative e trattati per imporre il disarmo e il rispetto della popolazione civile e del diritto umanitario.
Il Trattato di Proibizione delle Armi Nucleari (TPNW), scritto e negoziato presso le Nazioni Unite, è entrato in vigore il 22 gennaio 2021. Ad oggi è stato ratificato da 73 paesi, ma non dall’Italia, che ospita nel suo territorio 35 testate nucleari americane. In occasione dell’80° anniversario dei bombardamenti atomici su Hiroshima e Nagasaki la campagna ITALIA, RIPENSACI della Rete Italiana Pace e Disarmo rinnova l’appello a una mobilitazione collettiva contro gli armamenti nucleari e invita cittadini, enti locali e istituzioni a unirsi in un impegno concreto per il disarmo che costruisca un futuro libero dalla minaccia esistenziale posta da queste armi.
