Evento Congiunto Comune di Città di Castello – Comune di Sansepolcro
Venerdì 24 giugno alle ore 18 nella Sala Consiliare del Comune di Città di Castello si terrà la presentazione del saggio di Stefano Nocentini Il Cavaliere del Viva Maria – Arezzo contro Napoleone edito dalla casa editrice tifernate Luoghinteriori diretta da Antonio Vella. Si tratta di un saggio storico sull’insorgenza antinapoleonica del 1799, che interessò la
Toscana, l’Umbria e l’alto Lazio. Il libro analizza il movimento, dalle sue radici nella Toscana di Pietro Leopoldo I, fno al decadere delle motivazioni che ne erano alla base, alla caduta del Granducato nel 1859.
Il “Viva Maria” è anche parte della storia del territorio dell’Alta Val Tiberina, che vi fu
fortemente coinvolta, per la sua vicinanza ad Arezzo e la sua doppia appartenenza al Gran-
ducato di Toscana e allo Stato Pontifcio. Proprio l’Alta Val Tiberina fu protagonista, un anno
prima, nel 1798, di una sua propria insurrezione antifrancese, che annuncia e prefgura la
grande insurrezione aretina. Inoltre, Città di Castello è la città d’origine di una delle grandi
famiglie aretine che guidarono il “Viva Maria”, i marchesi Brozzi, che nel 1475 ne fuggirono in
seguito alla conquista della città da parte delle truppe pontifcie guidate da Braccio Baglioni,
riparando a Castiglion Fiorentino prima e ad Arezzo poi.
L’evento patrocinato dal Comune di Città di Castello e dal Comune di Sansepol-
cro, organizzato in collaborazione con l’Associazione Culturale Tracciati Virtuali, vedrà
la partecipazione dell’assessore alla Cultura del Comune di Città di Castello Michela Botteghi,
dell’assessore alla Cultura del Comune di Sansepolcro Francesca Mercati, dell’Autore Stefa-
no Nocentini e dell’editore Antonio Vella
