Giorno della memoria 2023

l giorno della Memoria ricorda il 27 gennaio 1945, giorno della liberazione del campo di sterminio di Auschwitz e la scoperta del dramma della Shoah e dell’Olocausto di ebrei, rom, omosessuali, disabili, comunisti, slavi e dissidenti.

Pochi giorni prima dell’arrivo dell’Armata Rossa, i nazisti avevano iniziato ad abbandonare il campo: portarono via alcuni prigionieri e cercarono di cancellare le prove dello sterminio, per esempio distruggendo alcuni forni crematori. Quello che trovarono i soldati sovietici venne documentato da riprese che ancora oggi colpiscono al cuore e allo stomaco: circa 7.000 prigionieri allo stremo, malati e affamati. Il Giorno della Memoria è una ricorrenza internazionale celebrata il 27 gennaio di ogni anno come giornata per commemorare le vittime dell’Olocausto. La Repubblica italiana riconosce il giorno 27 gennaio, data dell’abbattimento dei cancelli di Auschwitz, “Giorno della Memoria”, al fine di ricordare la Shoah (sterminio del popolo ebraico), le leggi razziali, la persecuzione italiana dei cittadini ebrei, gli italiani che hanno subìto la deportazione, la prigionia, la morte, nonché coloro che, anche in campi e schieramenti diversi, si sono opposti al progetto di sterminio, ed a rischio della propria vita hanno salvato altre vite e protetto i perseguitati.
