Cercava una perdita e ha trovato una bottiglia con un messaggio all’interno datato 6 ottobre 1887. Il protagonista di questa curiosa vicenda è Peter Allen, idraulico, che la mattina del 14 novembre si era recato a casa della signora Eilidith Stimpson a Edimburgo, in Scozia, per un lavoro di routine. Un piccolo buco nel pavimento poi la scoperta.
L’idraulico aveva sollevato esattamente la porzione di parquet che nascondeva un piccolo tesoro: una bottiglia vuota con all’interno un messaggio arrotolato.La padrona di casa, emozionata per il ritrovamento, ha voluto aspettare i figli di 8 e 11 anni di ritorno da scuola per condividere con loro l’apertura della bottiglia. In un primo momento i ragazzi hanno provato ad estrarre il biglietto armati di pinzette ma il foglio, indebolito dagli anni, tendeva a spezzarsi per cui è stato necessario “sacrificare” la bottiglia. Una volta aperto, la scoperta: tra le mani avevano il messaggio più antico del mondo conservato in una bottiglia.Questo il testo: “James Ritchie e John Grieve hanno posato questo pavimento, ma non hanno bevuto il whisky. Chiunque trovi questa bottiglia può pensare che la nostra polvere stia soffiando lungo la strada”. Gli archivi della città, come riporta Edinburgh Live, hanno confermato l’effettiva esistenza dei due protagonisti romantici che al momento della stesura sapevano che il ritrovamento sarebbe avvenuto dopo la loro morte. Forse però neanche loro si aspettavano che passasero pù di 135 anni.
