Il 26 luglio 1953 un gruppo di uomini guidato da un giovane attivista politico marxista, Fidel Castro, attaccò la caserma Moncada a Santiago di Cuba come atto di ribellione nei confronti del dittatore Fulgencio Batista e della “longa manus” dell’imperialismo statunitense. L’assalto si concluse con una sonora sconfitta per Castro e i suoi compagni.
Molti di questi furono arrestati, picchiati, torturati e uccisi prima che potessero essere processati. Fidel Castro riuscì a salvarsi e, di fronte a una tale disfatta, non si diede per vinto, perseverando nella lotta, sicuro dei suoi ideali. Difatti, nel 1955 fondò il “Movimiento 26 de Julio”, del quale fece parte anche Ernesto Che Guevara, accendendo nuovamente la miccia della Rivoluzione.Durante il processo che fece seguito all’assalto del 26 luglio, Fidel Castro affermò: “Condannatemi, non importa. La storia mi assolverà”. Oggi, a distanza di 70 anni, sono le conquiste della Rivoluzione e di tutta la sua Cuba ad assolverlo davvero, e a insegnare a tutti noi che, per quanto la lotta per un futuro migliore possa essere ardua, niente deve scoraggiarci dal tentativo di raggiungere quella meta. Anche per questo oggi manifestiamo per la rivoluzione cubana.Viva la Revoluciòn!
