Da giovedì 28 settembre a domenica 1 ottobre 2023, appuntamento a Città di Castello con CaLibro Africa, il festival degli scrittori e delle scrittrici africani e afrodiscendenti: quattro giorni di incontri imperdibili fra letteratura, musica e cinema.
Fra gli ospiti internazionali il vincitore del Prix Goncourt Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, il vincitore del Booker Prize Damon Galgut e la vincitrice del Nigeria Prize for Literature Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onubia. Fra gli ospiti italiani Igiaba Scego, Chiara Piaggio, Anna Maria Gehnyei, Ubah Cristina Ali Farah, Djarah Kan, Tommaso Giartosio, Pap Khouma, e molti altri. Non mancheranno una rassegna cinematografica a cura di Alessandro Jedlowski, e la sezione “Piccoli CaLibri” con laboratori e letture per bambini e bambine.

A Città di Castello, con una tradizione tipografica secolare, la parola scritta ritrova ogni anno con CaLibro uno spazio franco dove riconciliarsi con i molteplici modi in cui l’uomo ha provato a non farla disperdere ed in particolare con la forma che ha assunto nell’esperienza dei contemporanei: il libro. L’amministrazione è certa che l’incontro con CaLibro Africa sarà anche una delle occasioni per conoscere Città di Castello, il Rinascimento nell’Umbria medievale nell’anno del Cinquecentenario di Luca Signorelli, e l’arte di Alberto Burri, che qui ha voluto i suoi musei tematici».

Noi organizzatori o organizzatrici del festival mai avremmo sperato di festeggiare questo inaspettato decennale con una metamorfosi così sorprendente: quella in CaLibro Africa! Pensare che per le strade della nostra Città di Castello cammineranno tutti questi strepitosi scrittori e scrittrici africane e afrodiscendenti ci riempie di un entusiasmo eguagliato solo dalla contentezza di accogliere tutti e tutte coloro che accorreranno a incontrarli, a salutarli e, soprattutto, ad ascoltarli. Damon Galgut, per esempio, volerà da Città del Capo a Città di Castello: incredibile, eh? E che dire di Mohamed Mbougar Sarr o di Eugène Ébodé? E di Cheluchi Onuobia-Onyemelukwe o di Amira Ghenim? E delle scrittrici afroitaliane che verranno a trovarci? E di tutte e tutti gli altri ospiti in programma? Saranno giorni in cui Città di Castello sarà grande quanto l’Africa, e l’Africa quanto il mondo, e il mondo quanto le loro storie, e quelle storie quanto i nostri comuni orizzonti».

L’idea di organizzare il festival CaLibro Africa nasce dall’incontro fra Edizioni E/O e CaLibro Festival, due realtà fra le più vivaci del panorama nazionale. In oltre quarant’anni di attività, le Edizioni E/O, hanno avuto un ruolo determinante nella diffusione in Italia e all’estero di opere considerate ormai dei classici della letteratura africana. Basti pensare ad autori come Ahmadou Kourouma, Chinua Achebe e Abasse Ndione fra i tanti. Dal canto suo, CaLibro Festival, arrivato alla sua decima edizione, si è guadagnato una posizione di rilievo nel panorama degli eventi dedicati ai libri, attraverso l’originalità della proposta e delle modalità di incontro con gli ospiti del festival e il suo pubblico.
