L’arcivescovo di Napoli, don Mimmo Battaglia, che ha presieduto la cerimonia religiosa, roteando l’ampolla che contiene le sacre reliquie nel Duomo di Napoli, ha dato l’annuncio ai fedeli dell’avvenuto prodigio della liquefazione del sangue. Il sangue è arrivato sull’altare già sciolto, sembra che il prodigio sia avvenuto alle 9,54. L’annuncio di don Mimmo è stato accolto dallo sventolio dei fazzoletti bianchi da parte della Deputazione di San Gennaro e delle “parenti di San Gennaro”, le donne secondo la leggenda discendenti di Eusebia, nutrice del Santo.
