Una scoperta archeologica di grande importanza, avvenuta qualche giorno fa in modo del tutto casuale mentre venivano eseguiti scavi per la rete idrica: una tomba intatta che, dai primi rilievi, risalirebbe all’età Alessandrina, con affreschi e un corredo funebre perfettamente conservati. Il ritrovamento è avvenuto nel territorio del Comune di Giugliano in Campania, nei pressi dell’antica Liternum, dove esiste un Parco Archeologico che sorge sulla sponda sinistra del Lago Patria, proprio nel luogo in cui la tradizione vorrebbe sia stato sepolto Publio Cornelio Scipione l’Africano.
Attualmente si sta scavando anche in un’altra tomba nella vicina Calvizzano che pure potrebbe riservare sorprese.A Giugliano, mentre venivano eseguiti i lavori di scavo della rete idrica, ci si è accorti della presenza di pezzi di mura antiche e soprattutto di una cavità murata che nascondeva quella che gli archeologi della Soprintendenza hanno subito intuito essere un ipogeo. Quando è stato fatto cadere il muro che celava l’ingresso, ci si è trovati davanti immagini spettacolari. Uno dei due affreschi è ispirato alle dodici fatiche di Ercole, in questo caso la ovvero la lotta col cane infernale Cerbero, mentre è visibile Mercurio che assiste al combattimento. Un altro affresco ritrae due centauri con uno scudo. Sul posto un pool di archeologi che hanno effettuato i primi rilievi. Mariano Nuzzo, responsabile Sovrintendenza Area metropolitana, ha spiegato che «è probabile la datazione in periodo ellenistico»; ovviamente dovranno essere effettuati altri accertamenti che riguarderanno in particolare il corredo funerario. Per ora tutti a Giugliano hanno ribattezzato la sepoltura come «Tomba del Cerbero».
