Le operazioni di asfaltatura della nuova rotatoria e dei rinnovati parcheggi di piazzale Ferri sono in ultimazione, e con l’apposizione della segnaletica tali aree saranno aperto al traffico nella serata di lunedì, o la mattina seguente, nel caso, a seconda delle temperature che si riscontreranno, si dovesse decidere di dare ai nuovi asfalti una ulteriore notte di “raffreddamento”.
Mercoledì 7 agosto sarà aperto al traffico anche il ramo sud della strada, all’altezza del parcheggio Raniero Collesi, che è sempre rimasto fruibile durante la recente e ultima fase di chiusura di viale Sauro . Il completamento dell’asfaltatura della variante del Cassero, iniziata il 10 luglio scorso con i lavori per la posa dei primi due strati bituminosi nel tratto alternativo alla strettoia di viale Nazario Sauro tracciato tra piazzale Ferri e l’ingresso al parcheggio Raniero Collesi, segna un punto di avanzamento importante per il cantiere. Una volta che il manto stradale sarà stato ultimato e saranno state predisposte tutte le opere accessorie, compresa la segnaletica orizzontale e verticale, verrà, infatti, aperto al transito veicolare tutto il nuovo itinerario stradale che dalla rotatoria all’incrocio tra viale Nazario Sauro e via Antimo Marchesani raggiunge la viabilità esistente all’altezza del parcheggio Collesi. A quel punto sarà possibile proseguire con i lavori a ridosso delle mura urbiche previsti dal progetto della Variante del Cassero. Il tratto stradale di viale Nazario Sauro che verrà dismesso dopo l’apertura della variante stradale alternativa sarà parzialmente smantellato e trasformato in pista ciclopedonale per andare a completare l’anello della passeggiata, a piedi e sulle due ruote, attorno alle mura urbiche della città.In corrispondenza dell’accesso alle scale mobili, davanti alle mura urbiche, sarà realizzata una piazza urbana, con verde attrezzato, e sarà tracciato un nuovo percorso di collegamento a piazzale Ferri. Al termine, il progetto della Variante del Cassero raggiungerà così i quattro obiettivi fondamentali: superare le criticità legate alla sicurezza stradale dovute alla presenza della chicane sulla strettoia; conseguire una maggiore fluidità del traffico veicolare; incentivare l’utilizzo della modalità ciclopedonale per gli spostamenti all’interno della città, attraverso il nuovo percorso che permetterà di completare il ring perimetrale delle mura urbiche; valorizzare il patrimonio culturale rappresentato dalla cinta muraria monumentale. Nell’ambito dei lavori saranno completamente riqualificati i bagni pubblici di piazzale Ferri, attraverso la demolizione e la ricostruzione dell’attuale fabbricato dismesso e l’allestimento di servizi automatici utilizzabili anche dai portatori di handicap. Alla realizzazione della Variante del Cassero sarà collegato anche l’investimento da 600 mila euro con fondi della Regione Umbria, cofinanziato per 250 mila euro dal Comune, con il quale sarà ampliato il parcheggio Raniero Collesi. Agli attuali 118 stalli per auto del posteggio saranno aggiunti 75 posti e sarà montato un ascensore che collegherà la nuova area di parcheggio e la viabilità ciclopedonale con il bastione del Cassero. Sarà così abbattuta definitivamente ogni barriera architettonica per l’accesso a piazza Gabriotti delle persone con disabilità motoria, ma anche delle famiglie con passeggini e carrozzine.
