Ecco di cosa si tratta: Definire sensazionale la scoperta avvenuta a Gerusalemme non è affatto un’esagerazione. Gli archeologi dell’Autorità per le Antichità Israeliane in collaborazione con l’Università di Tel Aviv, dopo 150 anni di ricerche, hanno portato alla luce una struttura risalente a circa tremila anni fa che conferma alcune delle storie contenute nella Bibbia, in particolare nel Libro dei Re e nel Libro di Samuele
La scoperta sarà presentata al grande pubblico a inizio agosto in occasione della conferenza “Jerusalem Learning Experience”. La scoperta Si tratta per la precisione di un fossato profondo nove metri e largo non mento di trenta trovato durante gli scavi nel parcheggio Givat nel Parco Nazionale, una fortificazione che secondo gli esperti divideva la città di Davide in due. Su entrambi i lati del fossato sono state trovate scogliere perpendicolari impossibili da scalare che in seguito hanno rivelato il canale come linea di demarcazione tra città alta e città bassa. Impossibile da stabilire la data esatta della sua costruzione, ma è probabile che risalga al periodo in cui Gerusalemme era la capitale del Regno di Giuda, a partire dal re Giosia. In quegli anni era un ponte tra la parte bassa della città, utilizzata dagli abitanti come residenza, e l’Acropoli, la zona dove si trovavano il tempio e il palazzo.

Yuval Gadot, direttore degli scavi per conto dell’Università di Tel Aviv ha così commentato il ritrovamento: «È una scoperta che apre una rinnovata discussione sulle lettura della Bibbia e la topografia di Gerusalemme». «Gli scavi nella città di Davide non cessano di sorprendere – secondo Eli Escozido, direttore dell’Autorità per le Antichità – ancora una volta vengono rivelate scoperte che illuminano la letteratura biblica di una luce nuova e viva. Quando ti trovi in fondo a questo enorme fossato con mura massicce scolpite intorno a te, è impossibile non essere pieni di meraviglia e apprezzamento per quegli antichi, che 3.800 anni fa, per circa anni, spostarono montagne e colline, letteralmente»
