Nella costruzione dell’Autostrada del Sole, il tratto più complesso fu quello appenninico tra Bologna e Firenze. In questa tratta possiamo infatti trovare le costruzioni più ardite dal punto di vista tecnico e architettonico.Il viadotto Aglio, di 440 metri a nord di Barberino di Mugello è sicuramente una di queste, un capolavoro di leggerezza ed eleganza, con la sua arcata centrale con una luce di 165 metri.I lavori durarono due anni (1957-59). Il cantiere fu spettacolare al punto da diventare nel 1960 protagonista del documentario Viadotto sull’Aglio, diretto da Carlo Nebiolo.Nella centina per la costruzione del viadotto, vennero impiegati in tutto 65mila giunti e 89.700 metri di tubi. La costruzione del ponte sul Po, progettato da Silvano Zorzi. Fu collaudato il 4 e 5 giugno del 1959, facendovi transitare 10 carri armati e 20 autocarri.
