L’esposizione, realizzata con il patrocinio di Comune di Città di Castello, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Città di Castello, Rotary Club Città di Castello e la partnership tecnica di Petruzzi Editore, sarà inaugurata sabato 7 dicembre alle ore 18.00, alla presenza dell’artista.

Per la prima volta, viene esposto un corpus completo di opere grafiche di Omar Galliani, realizzate dagli anni Settanta agli anni Duemila. Il maestro del disegno italiano si approccia alle tecniche incisorie – principalmente litografia e acquatinta – grazie ad una docenza all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino (1979-80), città da sempre nota per le stamperie d’arte. Allo stesso modo, Città di Castello, che ha dato i natali a Celestino Celestini (1882-1961) e Alberto Burri (1915-1995), annovera nella sua storia una lunga tradizione dedicata alla stampa e all’editoria artistica, portata avanti anche dalla Galleria delle Arti di Luigi Amadei, che fatto della promozione grafica, in primis Burri, ma anche Picasso, Morandi e Bacon, una delle linee identitarie della propria mission. Il percorso espositivo comprende una quindicina di opere, molte delle quali in grandi formati, decisamente insoliti per le incisioni. Sono inoltre sposti alcuni esemplari unici, che associano alla litografia su pietra interventi manuali a tempera o pastello o applicazioni in marmo di Carrara. «Se le opere più note di Galliani trovano nel disegno la matrice più autentica della sua produzione, oltre che la tecnica prediletta, – scrive Lorenzo Fiorucci – nella litografia egli non perde la genuinità della propria ricerca, seppur con esiti talvolta sorprendentemente diversi. Nelle litografie si possono infatti apprezzare quelle che sono le qualità tecniche di un segno grafico che nel suo dipanarsi tra la superficie liscia della pietra si fa prima specchio rovesciato di un’immagine e poi metafora di uno studio perseguito, senza soluzione di continuità, dagli anni Settanta ad oggi, in una prospettiva sempre più orientata ad una rilettura dell’idea stessa di figura, anche attraverso prelievi e citazioni storiche, nonché poetiche mitizzazioni arcaiche. […] Nell’acquatinta, all’opposto, emerge preponderante quel dato tonale, cromatico di sofisticata costruzione onirica, quasi in una commistione evocativa di istanze simboliste immerse in suggestioni cosmiche surreali. È del 2000 la prima personale “Aurea in Cina” presso il Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Art a cui seguirà nel 2003 l’invito alla prima Biennale di Pechino vinta ex aequo con George Baselitz. Successivamente partecipa alla Biennale del 2005 e proseguirà il suo tour cinese toccando le città di Shanghai, Chengdu, Suzhou, Dalian, Xi’an, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Ningbo. Questo viaggio culminerà poi con l’esposizione del 2007 “Omar Galliani tra Oriente e Occidente” alla Fondazione Querini Stampalia di Venezia, quale evento speciale della Biennale di Venezia. Le Gallerie degli Uffizi di Firenze nel 2008 acquisiscono per le proprie collezioni il trittico “Notturno”. Nel 2017 il Direttore degli Uffizi Eike Schmidt gli commissiona un autoritratto per la collezione ufficiale del Corridoio Vasariano. Nell’ottobre 2018 si è tenuta la presentazione ufficiale dell’opera nell’Auditorium Vasari. Sempre nel 2017, alle Gallerie d’Italia – Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, a Milano, si inaugura la personale “Intorno a Caravaggio”. Nel 2018 la GAMeC, Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, e l’Accademia Carrara di Bergamo lo invitano a “Raffaello e l’eco del Mito”, nel Monastero delle Clarisse di Grosseto viene inaugurata “Teofanie” e nel 2019 il CIAC di Foligno presenta “Il corpo del Disegno”. Sempre nel 2019 Tornabuoni Art di Londra inaugura “A symphony in graphite”. La Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa presenta “Dipinta – La metis dell’Acqua”. La Galleria Tornabuoni Art, nel 2021, apre la mostra “Baci Rubati/Covid-19”, prodotta durante l’anno di pandemia. Sempre nel 2021 The Art Museum Riga Bourse, sezione del Latvian National Museum of Art inaugura la mostra “Self-Reflections”, con la collaborazione delle Gallerie degli Uffizi. Negli ultimi mesi dello stesso anno, il Museo Marca di Catanzaro ospita la personale “Omar Galliani. Il disegno non ha tempo”. Nel 2022 il Mart di Rovereto lo invita a “Giotto e il Novecento” e acquisisce per le proprie collezioni la tavola “Riflessi”. Nel 2023 il teatro Galli e il Part di Rimini presentano l’opera “Per Santa Teresa”. Nello stesso anno, il Palazzo Reale di Milano presenta la monografica “Omar Galliani. Diacronica. Il tempo sospeso”, a cura di Flavio Caroli e Vera Agosti, mentre la Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli di Firenze l’installazione “Omar Galliani. Un’Opera per Zeffirelli”. A gennaio del 2024 si inaugura la monografica “Omar Galliani. L’eco della Sibilla”, tra le sale del Palazzo dei Capitani di Ascoli Piceno, e la collettiva “Le vie della fede. Testimonianze d’arte e di pensiero” al Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant’Angelo di Roma. A marzo, il Collegio e la Galleria Alberoni ospitano “Silenzio, l’enigma del verso. Il Cristo di spalle di Omar Galliani in dialogo con l’Ecce Homo di Antonello da Messina”. Il Museo del 900 di Milano acquisisce per le proprie collezioni l’opera “Dalla bocca e dal collo del foglio” del 1977.
