IL DELLA S. CROCE NELLA TRADIZIONE CONTADINA

Nella tradizione contadina, ormai dimenticata, anche della Romagna, grande era l’attenzione che si attribuiva alla ricorrenza della Santa Croce

Dal settimo secolo, la festa della Croce si teneva il 3 maggio, ma, a seguito delle riforme del “Messale Romano”, durante il pontificato di Giovanni XXIII, all’ inizio degli anni 60, la festività di maggio venne abolita, lasciando a calendario solo quella del 14 settembre, come giorno della “Esaltazione della Santa Croce”.

Piantè al crosi – Piantare le Croci 

Il 3 maggio, i contadini avevano l’abitudine, il mattino presto, di recarsi a Messa, durante la quale facevano benedire nuovamente i ramoscelli di olivo già benedetti durante la Domenica delle Palme, prima della Pasqua. Tornati a casa con questi rami di olivo adornavano, intrecciandoli, croci che venivano realizzate con delle canne legate fra loro. Era uso, in alcune case, legare alla croce anche un piccolo nastrino rosso, contro il malocchio.

PIANTARE LE CROCI COME RITUALE DI PROTEZIONE DEL RACCOLTO

Le canne venivano poi piantate dai contadini, nelle capezzagne, per chiedere e ottenere la fertilità del terreno e la certezza del raccolto, dal quale dipendeva il sostentamento delle famiglie contadine mezzadrili. La croce doveva quindi difendere i raccolti dalla temutissima grandine (la “timpësta), perché “la timpësta la fa i purett” (la grandine crea dei poveri), come recita un antico proverbio romagnolo!
