Sessant’anni di carriera: ideatore di show, scopritore di talenti, autore tv, volto Rai. Inizia negli anni Sessanta, poi il successo con i grandi programmi: Canzonissima, Domenica In, Fantastico, Luna Park. E il record delle conduzioni di SanremoIl primo passo risale al 1959: «Debuttai in La conchiglia d’oro, un concorso musicale a Palermo: presentava Enzo Tortora. Io ero in veste di pianista, la mia prima apparizione in pubblico. Poi mi laureai in Legge, ma subito dopo arrivai a Roma per intraprendere la strada dello spettacolo». Ed ecco i primi test: «Feci il provino come pianista, cantante, imitatore e presentatore. Andò bene solo la quarta esibizione: era destino. Pino Procacci e Antonello Falqui mi chiesero: Immagina di trovarti al Festival di Sanremo e presentare Mina. Figuriamoci: sapevo tutto di Sanremo e di Mina. Fu un trionfo».
