La Fondazione Piero della Francesca è lieta di ospitare la conferenza del prof. Alberto Luongo, dal titolo La peste e gli anticorpi.
L’economia di Borgo Sansepolcro nel secondo Trecento, un appuntamento che si inserisce nel programma di ricerca volto a ricostruire il contesto politico, economico e sociale nel quale operarono gli antenati di Piero della Francesca, protagonisti della vivace imprenditoria legata alla produzione e al commercio del guado. L’incontro offrirà uno sguardo nuovo sull’economia biturgense nella fase immediatamente successiva alla Peste Nera del 1348, mettendo in luce la sorprendente capacità di ripresa del Borgo, crocevia di traffici tra Rimini, Ancona, Firenze e Perugia. Attraverso l’analisi di fonti notarili, statuti e documenti corporativi, Luongo ricostruirà il ruolo manifatturiero e commerciale della città, attiva nella produzione di panni di lana e veli di cotone, e nella vendita del guado verso i mercati fiorentini e mediterranei. Un’economia dinamica, sostenuta anche da una notevole partecipazione femminile nelle compagnie mercantili, e da un forte investimento nel decoro urbano, nell’istruzione e nella qualità degli spazi collettivi, che già nel Trecento preparava il terreno per la straordinaria stagione culturale del Quattrocento. L’intervento si propone di restituire a Sansepolcro un ruolo centrale nella storia economica dell’Italia centrale, mostrando come la città seppe reagire alla crisi trecentesca non con il declino, ma con una rinnovata vitalità produttiva e sociale.
