Il Vulcano Monte Busca sulle colline romagnole è il più piccolo del mondo. In Romagna c’è il vulcano più piccolo del mondo, si tratta del Vulcano Monte Busca che, come suggerisce il nome, si trova sul monte omonimo alto 740m.
Più precisamente il vulcano si trova nelle colline romagnole tra la val Tramazzo e la val Montone , nel comune di Tredozio. La località precisa in cui è collocato si chiama Inferno, nome più che azzeccato.Non è difficile trovare il Vulcano Monte Busca perché, anche se la zona è priva di cartellonistica segnaletica, è localizzato su google maps. Si trova in un grande campo vicino a un casolare e si presenta come un ammasso di pietre da cui fuoriescono delle fiamme. Talmente è piccolo che sembra come se qualcuno avesse acceso un falò e fosse pronto a riunirsi intorno per cantare una canzone. In realtà, il Vulcano Monte Busca è una fonte di metano perpetua, che fuoriesce dal suolo, e che viene tenuta accesa per evitare spargimenti di gas. Sembrerebbe quindi non essere propriamente un vulcano, anche perché questo non sempre si incendia autonomamente. Ad esempio, quando capitano forti piogge, sono i locali a riaccendere la fiamma spenta dall’acqua, sempre per lo stesso motivo di evitare fuoriuscite di gas dannoso. “Poscia da Portico un miglio discosto vedesi un luogo da gli habitatori del paese dimandato Inferno, ov‘è la terra negra et ponderosa, nella quale vi è un buco largo da piedi 4 ov’esce una fiamma di fuoco” è così che Leandro Alberti descrive il Vulcano Monte Busca nel 1588; e questo significa che la storia di questa fuoriuscita di metano è ben più lunga. Nel 1939 si cercò anche di sfruttare la risorsa di metano, lo stesso Mussolini partecipò all’inaugurazione della Società Idrocarburi Metano che utilizzava “il vulcano” come fonte. Il giacimento cadde quasi subito in disuso, ma il Vulcano Monte Busca fu di grande aiuto agli abitanti del paese durante la seconda guerra mondiale, che lo usarono come fuoco per cucinare e per segnalare la propria presenza.
