“È un’immensa soddisfazione constatare che nonostante le difficoltà riusciamo ancora a organizzare eventi culturali come questo. Grazie a chi ci consente di realizzare questi eventi che permettono di portare giovani musicisti in festival italiani e internazionali – dichiara Daniele Malvisi, della direzione artistica, a bilancio dell’edizione – Valdarno Jazz Summer, la rassegna di jazz itinerante valdarnese, chiuderà i propri battenti il prossimo venerdì 29 luglio all’Arena Teatro Garibaldi (ore 21.30, ingresso 5 euro ridotto 3) con uno dei concerti più attesi della stagione: il neonato Alchimia Project feat Paul Wertico, un ensemble trasversale lanciato con l’idea di esaltare similitudini e differenze tra la musica classica, rappresentata dal quintetto di percussioni Ichos Percussions ed il jazz, forte di un quartetto dal respiro internazionale. A dialogare col quintetto percussivo infatti saranno Gianmarco Scaglia (contrabbasso), Mirko Pedrotti (vibrafono), Alex Munk (chitarra) e Paul Wertico, vincitore di sette Grammy Awards per il suo lavoro che lo ha visto suonare la batteria per Pat Metheny per quasi 20 anni. Il programma musicale prevede brani di Gianmarco Scaglia, Mirko Pedrotti e pezzi in prima assoluta di Paolo Ugoletti, scritti per questa specifica formazione. Lo stesso programma verrà registrato e distribuito in forma digitale da DaVinci Records per un album intitolato Alchimia di prossima pubblicazione. Ichos Percussions è composto da Luca Vanoli (glockenspiel), Giorgio Calvo (marimba), Fabio Zuliani (marimba), Gianmaria Romanenghi (percussioni) e Nicolò Giovanni Demurtas (percussioni). ‘La collaborazione con Alchimia Project nasce grazie al nostro vibrafonista Mirko Pedrotti – afferma Wertico – che ho incontrato quando Gianmarco e Simone (Gubbiotti) stavano suonando assieme e tutto è nato in modo molto naturale. Per cui andremo in studio un paio di giorni, saremo di base tra Parma e Cremona e speriamo che il lavoro venga bene, abbiamo anche qualche data dal vivo per cui al momento tutto sta andando alla grande. Mi piace suonare con i percussionisti – prosegue Wertico, che ha intenzione di trasferirsi in Italia una volta ritiratosi dalla carriera accademica (è professore associato di studi jazz al Chicago College of Performing Arts) – anche a Chicago ho messo assieme una serata chiamata Chicago Percussionists Allstars con Mike Cortez, dove mettiamo assieme percussioni dal sapore sempre diverso, i concerti sono sempre sold out eppure non abbiamo mai registrato niente. Al momento è presto per dire se si tratti di un’esperienza unica o se invece diverrà un progetto sul lungo periodo, ma questa volta abbiamo deciso si registrare subito.’ La genesi del progetto viene invece raccontata dal contrabbassista Gianmarco Scaglia: ‘Il progetto è nato da un’idea di questa etichetta discografica, la Da Vinci Publishing, che aveva chiesto delle mie musiche per questo nuovo ensemble con un quintetto di percussionisti che sono nell’ambito classico che avrebbe dovuto duettare con un quartetto jazz, composto da me, dal chitarrista inglese Alex Munk e dal vibrafonista Mirko Pedrotti. Con Paul ci conosciamo da sempre, suoniamo assieme fra tour e serate dal 2008 e la collaborazione su questo progetto è nata in maniera assolutamente spontanea: ognuno di noi ha due composizioni a testa per questo lavoro che si chiama Alchimia, che è il titolo di un mio brano.’ La manifestazione è organizzata dall’associazione Valdarno Jazz, diretta da Daniele Malvisi e Gianmarco Scaglia, con il patrocinio del MIBACT – Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, Regione Toscana, in collaborazione con Comune di Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Comune di Loro Ciuffenna, Comune di San Giovanni Valdarno, di Terranuova Bracciolini, e con Music Pool. Dichiara Daniele Malvisi: “La conclusione di questa 39° edizione rappresenta al tempo stesso il coronamento di grandi sforzi e la la sorpresa di un pubblico che anche rinnovandosi ci segue con tanto affetto. È un’immensa soddisfazione constatare che nonostante le difficoltà si riesce ancora a organizzare eventi culturali che non prevedano l’inserimento di attività collaterali con finalità gastronomiche. Ringrazio sinceramente le amministrazioni comunali ancora illuminate che ci consentono di legare a questo territorio così speciale una serie di eventi che ci permettono con le nostre produzioni artistiche di portare i musicisti più giovani in tutti i festival italiani ed internazionali.
