Il 23enne delle Fiamme Gialle ha chiuso con 10”28. Durante le qualificazioni, Jacobs aveva vinto la terza semifinale con il tempo di 10″00 netti, mentre Chituru Ali è arrivando secondo nella seconda semifinale in 10″12. Ma non solo. Durante la giornata, Gianmarco Tamberi, vincitore della medaglia d’oro ex aequo nel salto in alto con il qatariota Barshim a Tokyo 2020, e l’Azzurro Marco Fassinotti si sono qualificati con la misura di 2,21 per la finale del salto in alto, in programma giovedì 18 alle 20.05. Sempre durante la giornata è arrivata anche la prima medaglia azzurra, un bronzo, grazie a Matteo Giupponi, che ha conquistato il terzo gradino del podio in 2h30:34 nella 35 km di marcia. Bronzo anche per Yeman Crippa nella finale dei 5.000 metri.
