Sarà il quarto mondiale di pallavolo, come arbitro, quello appena iniziato in Olanda e Polonia, per il tifernate Simone Santi. Dopo aver diretto quello del 2010 (Arbitro della finale Cuba – Brasile), 2014 (Semifinale Brasile – Francia) e quello del 2018, ora Santi è volato in Polonia per dirigere le gare che porteranno al titolo iridato 2022. Dopo aver terminato di arbitrare nel campionato italiano, per raggiunti limiti di età è stato chiamato dai vertici arbitrali europei (CEV) e mondiali (FIVB), per proseguire la sua carriera da record. Dopo aver diretto 619 gare nella massima serie italiana, con 19 finali scudetto, il fischietto altotiberino continua ad impegnarsi in Europa e nel Mondo. “Dopo aver terminato di arbitrare in Italia ho partecipato al corso per Delegati Tecnici per seguire in particolare i giovani arbitri – ha affermato Santi – tuttavia ho accettato la richiesta della CEV per dirigere alcune gare con giovani talenti in Europa. Poi la chiamata del responsabile arbitri mondiali che mi ha chiesto la disponibilità e non ho potuto rifiutare la proposta di partecipare al mio quarto mondiale”. Santi ha diretto anche le Olimpiadi di Londra 2012 e le finali di World League in Argentina nel 2011, anno in qui è diventato FIVB Referee, un riconoscimento che in Italia hanno avuto solo 4 arbitri nella storia. “Sono felice di portare il nome della mia Federazione e della mia città e regione nel mondo, ho sempre tenuto molto a questo. Sono molto attaccato alla mia terra ed in giro per il mondo parlo spesso delle bellezze dell’Umbria e della mia fantastica città”, ha dichiarato Simone Santi prima di partire per la Polonia. Il sindaco Luca Secondi e l’assessore allo sport, Riccardo Carletti, nel salutare questa ennesima prestigiosa designazione arbitrale che punta ancora i riflettori su una carriera strepitosa dell’arbitro dei record, hanno definito Santi come un vero e proprio “ambasciatore della città, delle sue bellezze a livello internazionale attraverso lo sport, orgoglioso dei colori tifernati.
