Si tratta di un intervento di circa 270mila euro, finanziato dal Ministero dei Beni culturali, la cui opera di maggior rilievo consiste nell’apertura dell’accesso a nord delle mura storiche adiacenti alla Fortezza. Questa consentirà il collegamento del tratto dell’antica Via Romea e dei Cammini di Francesco, che dagli archi costeggia il cimitero e sale fino al Bastione della Diacciaia, direttamente al Prato in prossimità dell’ingresso della Fortezza Medicea. “L’opera ha ottenuto il nulla osta da parte della Soprintendenza e i lavori si concluderanno entro il 2024 – spiega l’assessore Alessandro Casi -. Siamo già intervenuti con la ripulitura di un tratto del percorso che costeggia le mura dal Bastione della Diacciaia, ovvero il tratto di via Romea dove si trovano i resti dell’antica ghiacciaia”. Con la realizzazione di questo progetto Arezzo si inserisce nel più ampio itinerario turistico interregionale dei Cammini francescani, una proposta che prevede una stretta e sinergica collaborazione tra i livelli istituzionali territoriali interessati ovvero i comuni attraversati da “I Cammini”, la Regione Toscana, il Ministero dei Beni culturali e le altre regioni coinvolte.
