No. Berlusconi si è preso nella sua vita tanto di quel potere, che il vero magic moment, l’istante da raccontare, è quello in cui l’ha perso. Le cose stavano così: l’Italia andava a rotoli per via dell’attacco dei mercati al nostro debito pubblico. Spread oltre 500 punti. Merkel e Sarkozy che ridevano in pubblico di lui. L’Europa che aveva paura di affondare insieme all’Italia. Gianfranco Fini si era fatto un partito ed era passato all’opposizione. Otto deputati, tutti ex «fedelissimi», tradiscono il Cavaliere in un voto decisivo, facendogli perdere la maggioranza a Montecitorio. La dimensione «larger than life», fuori dall’ordinario, della vicenda umana e politica del Cavaliere è tutta nel momento in cui lasciò per sempre Palazzo Chigi (e che lui poi più volte derubricherà a mero «complotto», facendo così torto innanzitutto a se stesso e alla scelta responsabile che fece). A quella giornata a suo modo storica non fecero onore i cori di «buffone, buffone» sotto Palazzo Chigi e le ali di folla festanti davanti al Quirinale per le sue dimissioni. Come nella sera delle monetine a Craxi, si mostrò allora un’Italia capace di codardo oltraggio, dopo lunghi anni di servo encomio.
