ha potuto fare un’esperienza immersiva  di un mese nel reparto di diabetologia seguendo da vicino le attività specialistiche di cura del “piede diabetico”, ambito nel quale il reparto diretto dalla dott.ssa Alessia Scatena rappresenta un punto di riferimento italiano.
“Abbiamo avviato questa collaborazione con al Kent State University, che ha una sede anche a Firenze, già da qualche anno, racconta la dott.ssa Alessia Scatena, ma per i motivi legati alla pandemia abbiamo dovuto posticipare l’avvio di questo percorso. Ospitare e collaborare con giovani studenti e specializzandi che provengono dagli Stati Uniti per noi è una ottima occasione di scambio e di apprendimento. Grazie ad altri colleghi, come Giorgio Ventoruzzo, Pasquale Petruzzi e Edoardo Laiolo ha potuto conoscere a fondo il nostro ospedale. Il progetto di scambio proseguirà anche nel 2024 con l’arrivo di altri studenti. Questo progetto ci permette di comprendere i diversi sistemi di assistenza sanitaria tra Usa e Italia, ed a coglierne gli elementi di miglioramento reciproco. In questo mese  di impegno in ospedale Samantha ha avuto modo di seguire tutte le attività legate alla cura del Piede Diabetico, sia in corsia che in sala operatoria, e non solo nel nostro reparto di diabetologia.”
