La Pasqua è una festività cosiddetta “mobile”, perché la sua data cambia ogni anno, in base a un particolare calcolo La Pasqua è la festa più importante per i cattolici. Dopo un periodo di 40 giorni, la Quaresima, che inizia nel mercoledì delle ceneri (che quest’anno coincideva con San Valentino), si celebra la domenica di Pasqua, in cui si ricorda la Resurrezione di Cristo. La festività è detta mobile: non è sempre uguale, come il Natale che è sempre il 25 dicembre, ma varia anno dopo anno
Nel 2024 la data di Pasqua è domenica 31 marzo. Questa celebrazione è preceduta da quella che viene definita la Settimana Santa. La domenica precedente è la Domenica delle Palme (preceduta da cinque domeniche di Quaresima). Mentre nei giorni prima si ricordano il Giovedì Santo (l’ultima cena), il Venerdì Santo (la morte di Cristo) e il Sabato Santo. Fino ad arrivare alla domenica di Pasqua, seguita dal lunedì dell’Angelo, comunemente chiamato Pasquetta.

La Pasqua cristiana si celebra la prima domenica dopo la prima luna piena dell’equinozio di primavera. In pratica, può capitare nei 35 giorni che vanno dal 22 marzo al 25 aprile. Questa festa deriva dalla Pasqua ebraica, che ricorda la liberazione del popolo ebraico dalla schiavitù in Egitto e il viaggio verso la terra promessa. Gli ebrei hanno sempre ricordato questa celebrazione il quattordicesimo giorno del mese nissàn, nei giorni della luna piena tra marzo e aprile. All’inizio i Cristiani celebravano la Pasqua per ricordare la morte del Messia, mentre in seguito è emerso il desiderio di celebrarne la Resurrezione, cioè la vittoria della vita sulla morte. Fu il concilio di Nicea del 325 a stabilire che Pasqua sarebbe sempre stata la domenica successiva alla prima luna piena primaverile. Da questa festa mobile ne derivano altre senza data “uguale”, come le Ceneri, 47 giorni prima, e la Pentecoste, 50 giorni dopo.
