AREZZO – Giovedì 30 maggio 2024, alle ore 18, Pergentino Spazio delle Arti di via Cavour 188, ad Arezzo, ospita una conversazione dal titolo “Guerre antiche e conflitti moderni” assieme ad Alessandro Barchiesi e Federico Canaccini. L’iniziativa, moderata dal giornalista culturale Marco Botti, è organizzata dall’associazione culturale Ezechiele in collaborazione con l’associazione culturale LIRIA.
Due apprezzati professori universitari – il latinista e filologo classico Alessandro Barchiesi e il medievista Federico Canaccini – dialogano e riflettono sulle guerre contemporanee, che continuano a macchiare di sangue il mondo, attraverso grandi capolavori come l’Eneide e l’Iliade e i parallelismi con le guerre medievali. Alessandro Barchiesi, docente di studi classici alla New York University, è studioso di epica antica e autore di saggi sulla tradizione omerica, sull’Eneide e sulla poesia in età augustea, in particolare quella di Ovidio. Il suo intervento si concentrerà sull’epica antica, che ci propone immagini di guerre lontane, ma può servire a misurare somiglianze e differenze con il nostro presente. La rappresentazione dei fatti non risulta infatti realistica, ma sul senso della guerra sia Omero che Virgilio hanno intuizioni profonde. Ci mostrano, ad esempio, che nessuna guerra corrisponde alle intenzioni con cui i protagonisti la scatenano, e che alla fine di ogni guerra tutto deve essere rivalutato e cambia senso. Interessante anche il rapporto tra guerra e guerra civile, che risulta molto importante sia nell’Iliade che nell’Eneide. Le differenze fra questi due poemi epici ci rivelano il passaggio da un’idea di guerra legata al tribalismo e all’onore a un’idea di guerra come processo di formazione di stati e imperi. Federico Canaccini, docente di studi medievali all’Università Pontificia Salesiana, si occupa di storia comunale toscana e di storia della guerra nel Medioevo. Il suo intervento si focalizzerà sulle lotte che hanno caratterizzato il lungo millennio medievale, a cominciare dallo scontro tra la “Romanitas” e la “Barbaritas”, per proseguire in un confronto tra Cristianità e Islam, frammentandosi in centinaia di conflitti intestini e assegnando di volta in volta un nuovo nome e un nuovo volto all’altro, al nemico. In particolare, il conflitto comunali delle guerre toscane, sintetizzato dal binomio guelfo-ghibellino, ha insanguinato la Toscana e l’Italia a partire dal Duecento per poi continuare per tutto il Medioevo, travalicandone i limiti per giungere con modifiche sostanziali fino all’Ottocento, con il Neoguelfismo e il Neoghibellinismo. L’uso e l’abuso dei termini e della propaganda sarà motivo di riflessione su come, in fondo, alcuni meccanismi si reiterano sino ai nostri giorni, in un momento in cui viviamo la drammaticità di nuovi conflitti.
