Il 14 maggio annunciavamo l’impresa che Tommaso Fusco si apprestava di lì a poco ad intraprendere, rispetto alla quale, L’Ardita e ArezzoGravel, con il supporto tecnico del negozio Tuttobici di Massimo Vespertini, sentivano di dover dare un piccolo contributo, in termini di materiali e sostegno. L’idea c’era piaciuta e volevamo che, la parte dell’impresa affrontata in bici, fosse effettuata da Tommaso con la nostra maglia de l’Ardita (non quella vintage di lana, ma ovviamente una simile adatta però al ciclismo moderno) e la scritta con il nome della nostra città in bella evidenza.
Tommaso Fusco, atleta di 22 anni, nato e cresciuto ad Arezzo con la passione per l’outdoor e gli sport di endurance, si apprestava ad affrontare una grande impresa, mai provata prima, con grande umiltà e con la volontà di sfidare sé stesso verso una impresa sportiva, unita a fini umanitari. I record da battere sono più di uno, ma certamente il primo è il più arduo: completare 41 half iron man consecutivi. Ma di cosa si tratta? L’half iron man (o anche iron man 70.3) è un triathlon di lunga distanza, una versione ridotta dell’iron man. La disciplina ha preso avvio nel 2001 con il nome di “mezzo ironman o half ironman” per essere poi definito, dal 2005, ufficialmente Ironman 70.3. La distanza da percorrere, in un giorno è quella di 70.3 miglia (ed ecco spiegato il nome). L’atleta deve completare una nuotata di 1,9 km, una corsa in bicicletta di 90 km e una corsa di 21,1 km (mezza maratona) prima di completarlo, per una distanza totale di 113 km con un tempo medio di completamento (nelle gare) di circa 8 ore. Il nostro Tommaso, partito il 17 maggio, non si è accontentato di farne uno, ma ben 39 consecutivi e mercoledi raggiungerà la quota di 41, battendo il record del mondo, per poi provare ad arrivare fino ad 80 ed insidiare un secondo e più complesso record. Questa avventura sportiva sarà anche l’occasione per collaborare con Oxfam Italia per una raccolta fondi che sarà destinata alla distribuzione di acqua potabile nei paesi colpiti da crisi umanitarie. L’intera sfida sarà documentata canali social di Tommaso, ma potrete seguirlo anche su Oxfam Italia e sulle pagine social de l’Ardita e di ArezzoGravel. Per chi vorrà sostenerlo di persona sarà possibile anche affrontare con lui parte delle sue sfide quotidiane a nuoto, a piedi e soprattutto in bicicletta.
Il record che tenterà di battere è uno dei più duri in assoluto da realizzare e ci sarà bisogno del sostegno e dell’incoraggiamento di tutti, l’invito quindi è quello di seguirlo e sostenerlo.
