Charles Leclerc bissa il successo del 2019 con un autentico capolavoro e manda i tifosi in delirio. Per lui “una stagione da infarto”, ma sublimata dalla gioia immensa dei primi posti sia a Monaco che a Monza, le sue due gare preferite. Si avvera così la corsa perfetta che serviva per vincere partendo dalla quarta piazzola: l’azzardo degli ingeneri al muretto, unici a credere alla strategia della singola sosta, e la sua capacità di guidare sulle uova con gomme dure ormai finite sul nuovo asfalto, dopo 38 giri, sono i due magici ingredienti.
Per completare la ricetta serve però anche un pizzico di fortuna: le minacciose nuvole nere cariche di pioggia – che scombinerebbero tutti i piani – si tengono ben lontano dall’autodromo; e i rivali in pista inanellano una serie di impronosticabili errori e sbavature: Russell finisce subito lungo alla Prima Variante, danneggiando l’ala anteriore e compromettendo la gara dopo 500 metri; Piastri a sorpresa tradisce il poleman Norris alla Roggia, facendogli perdere tempo, tranquillità e posizioni.
Norris rimette il naso davanti a Leclerc dopo il primo pit stop, grazie ad un undercut che vale ben 3”. Leclerc si innervosisce, sente la vittoria sfumare e chiede delucidazioni sulla strategia adottata, non convinto affatto che fermarsi così presto fosse la scelta corretta: non perde però la concentrazione e continua a spingere sul gas, restando in scia alle McLaren. Norris – al pari del compagno di squadra – non riesce però a gestire l’usura dell’anteriore sinistra e viene richiamato ai box. E’ la svolta che la Ferrari aspetta: Leclerc passa davanti a tutti con un ampio margine di vantaggio su Sainz (più di 10”) e inanella una serie con il metronomo. Dietro Piastri e Norris rimontano furiosamente con pneumatici ben più freschi: sverniciano con facilità Sainz ma non riescono a riprendere a Leclerc, capace con il suo passo morbido di perdere meno di un secondo al giro dagli inseguitori. Per la McLaren si profila un mezzo disastro: non compiono il sorpasso su Red Bull nella classifica costruttori (-9), mentre Norris rosicchia appena 7 punti a Verstappen (-63) in una gara con ben altre premesse. “Giù il cappello per la Ferrari – evidenzia l’ad Zak Brown -. Non si può essere arrabbiati quando vincono a Monza”. Ma il rimpianto è tangibile. “Mi ha sorpreso”, la secca risposta di un Norris apparso piuttosto scosso alla domanda sull’inspiegabile sorpasso di Piastri. Una manovra improvvida che ha reso impossibile una doppietta che sembrava scritta nella pietra. “E’ stato aggressivo – aggiunge Brown – ma loro due sono sempre liberi di correre”. La Ferrari esulta per il terzo trionfo stagionale e fa festa a lungo, con il team ancora in pista due ore dopo la fine della corsa. E, intanto, riceve i complimenti di John Elkann: “Vincere a Monza, a casa nostra, è un’emozione unica. Questa vittoria è per tutti i nostri tifosi che ci sostengono sempre e che oggi hanno sospinto Charles negli ultimi giri di gara.
Complimenti a tutta la squadra, che ha lavorato insieme a ogni aspetto, mettendo la Ferrari in condizione di dare il meglio”.
