Il Pont du Gard in Provenza, Francia, ne è un esempio perfetto. Costruito nel 17 a.C., questo acquedotto non solo attraversa un corso d’acqua, ma ha una lunghezza totale di 50 km, portando l’acqua dalle sorgenti di Uzès alla città gallo-romana di Nemausus, oggi nota come Nîmes. ️Impressionante, vero? Ma c’è di più. Non era un semplice acquedotto, era un’opera d’arte! Composto da tre livelli di archi, con l’arco più alto della struttura che una volta trasportava il suo flusso d’acqua. Un risultato davvero straordinario di ingegneria e design.
La capacità di questo gigante? Arrivava a fornire 20.000 metri cubi di acqua al giorno. L’abbondante presenza di depositi di calcare suggerisce che l’acquedotto fosse in funzione per non meno di 400-500 anni. Non male per una costruzione di quasi 2000 anni fa, no? I tempi cambiano, le città si evolvono e le strutture scompaiono, ma il Pont du Gard resiste, testimone muta della potenza di una civilizzazione che ha saputo far convivere ingegneria e arte. Immagina di passeggiare sotto i suoi archi o ammirarlo da lontano con il sole che illumina il calcare giallo… un viaggio nel tempo senza bisogno di una macchina del tempo.
