Ecco come abbiamo costruito il ponte: Abbiamo iniziato con due pali, ciascuno spesso circa mezzo metro, con le estremità inferiori appuntite e tagliate a lunghezze variabili a seconda della profondità del fiume. Questi pali erano distanziati di circa sessanta centimetri l’uno dall’altro e calati nel fiume tramite carrucole.
Una volta posizionati, i pali venivano fissati sul letto del fiume e messi in posizione usando battipali, inclinati obliquamente piuttosto che verticalmente, in direzione della corrente.Circa 12 metri più a valle, abbiamo posizionato un altro paio di pali, uniti in modo simile ma orientati per controbilanciare la corrente. Abbiamo collegato questi due set di pali con una trave larga sessanta centimetri, che si incastrava perfettamente tra i pali di ciascuna coppia. I pali erano tenuti separati da staffe attaccate agli estremi della trave. Questo design assicurava che, man mano che la corrente esercitava più forza, la struttura si serrava sempre di più, stabilizzando il ponte.Abbiamo continuato questo processo posizionando ulteriori pali e travi, collegandoli con legname trasversale, sormontato da pali e fasci di rami. Per aumentare la stabilità, abbiamo conficcato più pali obliquamente sul lato a valle del ponte come contrafforti per resistere alla corrente. Ulteriori pali sono stati posti a monte per intercettare eventuali detriti o imbarcazioni mandati per danneggiare il ponte.L’intera costruzione è stata completata dieci giorni dopo l’inizio della raccolta del legname e l’esercito ha potuto attraversare il ponte
