A seguire driver e co-driver hanno rotto il ghiaccio anche con le Prove di Media lungo la Fort Valley, soprannominata “la valle nella valle” trovandosi appunto fra i due bracci settentrionali delle Blue Ridge Mountains, seguita da un’altra Prova di Media a Kennedy Peak che ha regalato la suggestiva vista sulla vallata, resa ancor più bella dai colori sgargianti che questa splendida giornata di sole che regalato. Dopo il Controllo Timbro a Shenandoah, le vetture hanno fatto il loro ingresso nella tenuta di Barboursville con un blocco di 10 Prove Cronometrate sulle strade bianche della cantina, fra i vigneti di importazione italiana della famiglia Zonin. A seguire il pranzo presso il Ristorante Palladio, uno dei più autentici ristoranti italiani d’America. l Controllo Orario di ripartenza delle 14.15 ha inaugurato il secondo settore di gara, che ha subito previsto altre Prove in uscita da Barboursville Vineyards. Il convoglio ha poi iniziato la risalita verso Nord, lungo la quale gli equipaggi si sono misurati con altre due Prove di Media fra dolci saliscendi e piacevoli curve, la prima in località Haywood e la seconda nei dintorni di Carters Run. Una volta rientrati a Middleburg, sarà il Salamander a riaccogliere i suoi ospiti nella nuova area residenziale, dove si svolgeranno altre 10 Prove Cronometrate. Dopo una breve sosta in attesa del buio, dalle 19 esordirà il settore di gara in notturna, novità assoluta di questa edizione: i cronometri scatteranno nell’area privata di Atoka Chase, completamente priva di luce naturale, con i pressostati illuminati a LED. Le attività di gara termineranno infine presso il National Sporting Library & Museum di Middleburg.
