Infatti il truffatore non fa altro che chiamare il numero della vittima, scelta il più delle volte casualmente, per poi riattaccare una volta avviata la telefonata. A quel punto il destinatario della chiamata, incuriosito dal contenuto, se richiama il numero cade nel tranello del truffatore che ha modo di mettere mano a svariati euro dal conto della vittima soltanto facendola rimanere più a lungo in linea. Alla risposta, poi, non solo la chiamata comincia a far lievitare la somma di denaro rubata, ma illude chi chiama. I truffatori, infatti, hanno trovato un modo per prolungare la chiamata, fingendo che non sia mai partita. I malviventi, infatti, una volta ricevuta la recall, inviano un suono registrato di telefono che squilla (come se al chiamante la telefonata fosse ancora in atto, con il numero libero) facendo credere di essere in attesa di risposta mentre invece è già connesso con tanto di credito rubato. Ma come fare per cercare di tenersi alla larga da questa truffa? Prevenire è meglio che curare, quindi il primo consiglio riguarda un’accortezza che tutti dovremmo prendere. Quale? Accettare solo i cookie essenziali e rifiutare quelli opzionali che potrebbero passare i dati a terzi e, soprattutto, firmare solo consensi obbligatori e firmare solo nelle caselle dove il consenso è richiesto per la fornitura del servizio, evitando di finire in liste poco protette che possono essere facilmente forzate dai cybercriminali. Altre due soluzioni sono quelle di verificare tramite l’Agcom se il numero che chiama è iscritto al Registro degli Operatori di Comunicazione. Se il numero non risulta presente e continua a chiamare, il consiglio è quello di bloccarlo manualmente. Un’altra soluzione è installare app per filtrare le chiamate in entrata e che consentono la ricerca manuale dei numeri di telefono segnalati da altri utenti.
