“Storia di Puliciano” di Moreno Massaini

AREZZO – Domenica 23 febbraio 2025, alle ore 15.45,la chiesa dei Ss. Lorenzo e Martino di Policiano (Arezzo) ospita la presentazione di “Storia di Puliciano. Le composite vicende di un’antica comunità della Valdichiana nord orientale (AGC Edizioni) di Moreno Massaini. Assieme all’autore del libro interverranno padre Anthony Omoregie Osemwengie, parroco di Policiano, Lucia Tanti, vicesindaco di Arezzo, Claudio Santori vicepresidente dell’Accademia Petrarca di Lettere, Arti e Scienze e Ivo Biagianti, docente dell’Università degli Studi di Siena e autore della prefazione. Modera la presentazione il giornalista culturale Marco Botti

Il volume, pubblicato grazie ai contributi di Niccheri Tito S.r.l., Niccolò Bono e Riccardo Bono, è una “enciclopedia pulicianese” di 600 pagine, figlia di venticinque anni di ricerche archivistiche e nel territorio, che racconta dalla A alla Z una delle località del territorio comunale di Arezzo sorte alle pendici del Monte Lignano. Un lavoro meticoloso e dettagliato, che porta in dote molte notizie inedite e colma tante lacune. Partendo dal latino “publicianum”, da cui derivano il toponimo Puliciano e quello più utilizzato dalle nuove generazioni, ovvero Policiano, Massaini offre un’incredibile quantità di documenti, informazioni e curiosità. Dalla preistoria agli etruschi, dai romani al medioevo, dall’epoca moderna a quella contemporanea, l’autore dimostra che per ogni periodo ci sono belle pagine da svelare.  Nel libro si approfondiscono, ad esempio, l’evoluzione del borgo fortificato medievale e le vicende di chiese come quella scomparsa di San Lorenzo del IX secolo, di cui restano mirabili testimonianze artistiche custodite nel Museo d’arte medievale e moderna di Arezzo, e quella diruta di San Martino, situata nei pressi di una fonte pagana frequentata dalle donne partorienti, perché si credeva che quelle acque aiutassero la lattazione. Alla fonte si ricollega anche la “Madonna del Latte” quattrocentesca attribuita a Paolo Schiavo, oggi nella chiesa parrocchiale ottocentesca.  Protagonisti sono prestigiosi personaggi, come il giurista Angelo Tavanti, che rivestì nel XVIII secolo il ruolo di direttore del Dipartimento delle Finanze del Granducato di Toscana sotto l’illuminato governo di Pietro Leopoldo I, e influenti famiglie, come quella dei Capponi, che giunta a Policiano nel Quattrocento segnò per quasi quattro secoli la storia della località, promuovendo l’appoderamento, introducendo la coltivazione della canapa e del lino e in seguito, grazie alle disposizioni granducali, favorendo quella del gelso per l’allevamento dei bachi da seta. Non poteva mancare un ampio spazio dedicato alla bonifica della Valdichiana, che dalla seconda metà del Settecento portò in dote anche le case coloniche dette “leopoldine”, abitazioni progettate con criteri innovativi che migliorarono le condizioni di vita dei contadini e ancora oggi connotano il paesaggio della Manziana, a valle di Policiano. Nato nel 1949, laureato in Fisica, apprezzato docente di scuole superiori e dirigente scolastico a riposo, Moreno Massaini appartiene a una famiglia originaria dell’alto Casentino trapiantata a Policiano dal 1955. Negli anni ha scritto importanti articoli, saggi e volumi, come quelli dedicati alla transumanza dall’Italia Centrale alla Maremma. Nel 2015 ha dato alle stampe il libro “Alto Casentino. Papiano e Urbech. La storia, i fatti, la gente”, incentrato sulla località del comune di Pratovecchio Stia. Con lo stesso criterio di ricerca propone al lettore “Storia di Puliciano”, un volume che da ora in avanti sarà una fonte imprescindibile per chiunque vorrà approfondire la storia del luogo.  “Chi ha senso di appartenenza a questo piccolo paese troverà tanti motivi di lettura, ma ce li troveranno anche coloro che abitano in quella fascia di territorio comunale di Arezzo che va da Olmo a Vitiano. Accanto a grandi eventi e note figure, ci sono le vicende quotidiane dei pulicianesi più umili nei vari secoli. Il compianto professor Giovanni Cherubini affermava che per offrire una visione equilibrata del passato non bisogna dimenticare la microstoria e la gente modesta a fianco dei potenti. Conoscere e capire le difficoltà e le sofferenze patite da quelle persone di ieri, aggiungo io, è la strada giusta per acquisire un migliore senso della misura delle cose e vivere meglio oggi”.
