La cerimonia per l’illustre pediatra è stata arricchita dall’esibizione degli alunni della scuola “Curzi” La sala consiliare di San Benedetto del Tronto ha accolto la cerimonia di conferimento della cittadinanza onoraria al professor Italo Farnetani, figura di spicco nel panorama medico-scientifico nazionale e punto di riferimento nel campo della pediatria.
L’evento si è svolto in un clima di sentita riconoscenza per l’affetto mostrato dal professor Farnetani verso la città che sin dal 2008, anno della sua istituzione, si fregia della “bandiera verde”, come spiaggia a misura di bambino, ideata proprio da Farnetani. Nel suo saluto il sindaco Antonio Spazzafumo ha sottolineato come la credibilità di questo riconoscimento derivi non solo dall’autorevolezza del suo fondatore ma anche dal fatto che non sono ammesse autocandidature ma sono gli stessi pediatri italiani a segnalare le località meritevoli della bandiera verde. Alla cerimonia hanno preso parte numerose autorità civili e militari, tra cui l’assessore Monica Manneschi del Comune di Arezzo, città natale del professor Farnetani, che ha voluto rendere omaggio al concittadino insignito di questo prestigioso riconoscimento, e i rappresentanti dei Comuni di Grottammare, Cupra Marittima, San Salvo, Alba Adriatica, città sulle quali sventola la “bandiera verde”.
In collegamento da remoto, anche Salvatore Quinci, sindaco di Mazara del Vallo che ha anch’essa concesso la cittadinanza onoraria a Farnetani, che ha ricordato i forti legami tra le due località i cui porti sono stati realizzati nello stesso periodo e che per decenni sono stati i più importanti in Italia per volume del pescato e flotta di natanti. Nel suo intervento il presidente dell’associazione albergatori “Riviera delle Palme”, Nicola Mozzoni, sodalizio che ha proposto Farnetani per l’onorificenza, ha sottolineato la forte influenza delle ricerche del professore sulle opportunità offerte dalla città delle palme sulle politiche turistiche. La cerimonia ha visto la partecipazione degli alunni dell’indirizzo musicale della scuola secondaria di primo grado “Curzi” dell’ISC Centro che, insieme ai loro docenti, hanno arricchito la mattinata con vari intermezzi. Presenti anche delegazioni di alunni degli istituti scolastici Nord e Sud che hanno sventolato bandierine verdi e portato un lavoro di gruppo fatto proprio per esaltare la qualità del mare e del litorale sambenedettese. Prima della consegna della pergamena che ora ne attesta la cittadinanza sambenedettese, il professor Farnetani ha intrattenuto i presenti con un dialogo con la giornalista Laura Ripani nel corso del quale ha ripercorso la storia turistica di San Benedetto del Tronto sin dagli albori, 160 anni fa, come città turistica e colonia di salute, fino ad arrivare alle diverse ricerche condotte da lui stesso che hanno trovato in San Benedetto una cartina di tornasole perfetta, capace di rappresentare alla perfezione il tipo di ambiente dotato di tutte le caratteristiche – geografiche, culturali e ambientali – del luogo ideale in cui portare i bambini per una vacanza all’insegna della salute.
