Nel silenzio spesso complice dell’informazione ufficiale, il glifosato — l’erbicida più utilizzato al mondo — continua a insinuarsi nella nostra catena alimentare, nell’acqua che beviamo e nell’aria che respiriamo, eppure i dati più recenti, provenienti da studi sperimentali e ricerche epidemiologiche, confermano [MG1] [FB2] i rischi per la salute legati all’esposizione al glifosato.
Nel 2015, l’Agenzia Internazionale per la Ricerca sul Cancro (IARC) dell’OMS ha classificato il glifosato come “probabile cancerogeno per l’uomo”. Da allora, il dibattito scientifico è proseguito tra conferme, smentite e pressioni industriali. Oggi, però, grazie allo studio più recente dell’Istituto Ramazzini, pubblicato sulla rivista Environmental Health (giugno 2025), disponiamo di una delle evidenze sperimentali più solide mai raccolte. L’esposizione cronica al glifosato, iniziata in utero e protratta per due anni in ratti di laboratorio, ha provocato un aumento significativo e dose-dipendente di tumori multipli: leucemie precoci, tumori del sistema nervoso, della pelle, del fegato, delle ossa e della tiroide. Gli effetti si sono manifestati anche a dosi corrispondenti all’attuale soglia ritenuta “sicura” dall’Unione Europea (0,5 mg/kg/die). In particolare, nel caso delle leucemie, il 40% degli animali esposti è morto nel primo anno di vita, mentre nel gruppo di controllo non è stato osservato alcun caso. Ma i rischi non si fermano qui. Studi recenti suggeriscono che il glifosato possa contribuire anche allo sviluppo di malattie neurologiche complesse, come l’autismo (ASD) e il morbo di Parkinson (PD), agendo come co-fattore ambientale in soggetti geneticamente predisposti, danneggiando il sistema nervoso fin dalle prime fasi della vita. Inoltre, il glifosato altera profondamente il microbiota intestinale, influenzando l’equilibrio tra cervello e intestino e contribuendo a stati infiammatori cronici e stress ossidativo. La questione, oggi, non è più se il glifosato sia pericoloso. La vera domanda è: perché continuiamo a tollerarne l’utilizzo in ambiti così sensibili — come parchi pubblici, giardini scolastici e aree verdi urbane — pur conoscendone la tossicità documentata? E’ notizia di questi giorni l’inopinata decisione del comune di Vercelli di utilizzare di nuovo (dopo dieci anni) il glifosato per la manutenzione del verde pubblico. Il glifosato è un simbolo di una contaminazione sistemica che non agisce da sola: si combina con metalli pesanti, microplastiche e altre sostanze chimiche, potenziandone gli effetti nocivi attraverso meccanismi sinergici e cumulativi. È un esempio emblematico della necessità di rivedere radicalmente l’approccio alla tutela della salute pubblica e alla valutazione del rischio ambientale. Non possiamo più relegare queste evidenze a “note a margine” nei report tecnici. La scienza indipendente ha fatto la sua parte. Invitiamo le istituzioni politiche e sanitarie ad assumersi la responsabilità di proteggere il genoma e il cervello delle nuove generazioni, mettendo fine all’uso indiscriminato di sostanze che si confermano sempre più insidiose. Il glifosato è, oggi, in cima a questa lista.
