MOSTRO DI FIRENZE – Sabato 14 settembre 1974, Pasquale Gentilcore di 19 anni, residente a Pontassieve e Stefania Pettini, 18 anni, di Vicchio segretaria d’azienda, vengono uccisi nella località Fontanine di Rabatta, nel paese di Sagginale una frazione del comune di Borgo San Lorenzo, mentre si trovavano fermi in una Fiat 127 lungo una strada sterrata; lui venne ucciso con cinque colpi di pistola mentre lei, dopo aver ricevuto tre colpi, ancora viva fu portata fuori dall’auto e accoltellata decine di volte e, infine, le venne inserito un tralcio di vite nella vagina dopo l’omicida colpì con cinque colpi di coltello anche il corpo esanime di Pasquale nella zona del fegato
Il mattino successivo, i familiari dei due ragazzi, allarmati per il mancato rientro dei figli, si recarono dai carabinieri di Borgo San Lorenzo che li informarono del delitto, scoperto un’ora prima da un agricoltore della zona. Sul luogo del delitto vennero ritrovati dai carabinieri 5 bossoli calibro 22 Long Rifle; a seguito di una telefonata anonima verrà ritrovata anche la borsetta della ragazza in un campo a 300 metri dall’auto. Il pomeriggio prima di essere uccisa la Pettini aveva confidato a un’amica di aver avuto un incontro sgradevole con uno sconosciuto ma non ebbe tempo di approfondire il fatto. Un amico della Pettini, titolare della scuola guida dove la ragazza stava conseguendo la patente, raccontò ai carabinieri di un pedinamento da parte di uno sconosciuto in auto durante una lezione di guida, il venerdì sera prima del delitto. In ogni caso la Pettini non fu la sola, tra le vittime femminili del maniaco, ad aver lamentato molestie da parte di ignoti poco prima dei delitti. Gli inquirenti esaminarono anche il diario della ragazza ma senza trovarvi alcuna annotazione insolita.
